02 / What it is
Real objects, old imaginings,
and new art, clearly labeled
13 of the images are public-domain or CC0 works: a Babylonian sky-omen tablet photographed by The Met, flood paintings by Doré, John Martin and Edward Hicks, Piero and Rembrandt, Haeckel’s radiolarians, Apollo 8’s Earthrise, the Apollo 17 Blue Marble, and Hubble and Webb telescope images. The other 5 are original pieces we made with code, including two data graphics: 4.54 billion years of Earth history on one spiral, and the orbit a “3,600-year planet” would actually need.
Every image has a caption card with a label:
- EVIDENCE: a real object or a real photograph (tablet, Apollo photos, telescope images. The telescope colors are assigned by the imaging teams, and the card says so).
- ILLUSTRATION · BASED ON OBSERVATION: drawn from real specimens (Haeckel).
- ARTWORK · NOT EVIDENCE: an artist’s imagining. A 19th-century flood painting tells you about the 19th century, not about the flood.
- ORIGINAL ART / DATA GRAPHIC (NO AI): made by us.
Being upfront about what you’re paying for: the public-domain images are free at their sources, and each card links to its source. The $12 pays for finding and checking them, careful restoration, the research captions and caption cards, the 5 originals, and the packaging. It also helps fund the free Discover Truth investigation.
03 / What's inside
What you get
- 18 images as JPEG (sRGB), 4,000–8,000 px on the long edge. Single landscape or portrait images, with no separate phone or desktop crops in this version.
- 18 caption cards (2400×1600) with the title, who made it and when, what it shows, what it is and isn’t evidence of, the rights, and a source link.
- A caption sheet (PDF) and CAPTIONS.csv listing every credit, license, source URL, what we did to restore it, and print size.
- A contact sheet so you can see all 18 at a glance.
- LICENSE.txt for personal use: wallpapers, prints for your own home, office or classroom wall at any size, school work, and non-commercial talks with credit. You may not resell or redistribute the collection, or put our 5 originals on products you sell.
04 / How these were made
AI-use disclosure
None of the 18 images was made with AI image generation.
- Images 1–13 are public-domain or CC0 works downloaded from Wikimedia Commons, with their license details recorded. They’re lightly restored: luminance-only levels, a mild sharpen on engravings, and scan margins and book edges cropped off. The NASA, Hubble, Webb and Met images are unaltered apart from resizing. One image (the Flammarion engraving) is upscaled by about 1.1×. Every change is listed in the caption sheet.
- Images 14–18 are original artworks drawn with code (Python and cairo), two of them data graphics. No AI image tools were used.
- Captions were researched and drafted with AI assistance (Grok Bot), then checked against the sources linked on each card. If you spot an error, tell us. It goes in our public corrections log.

06 / Questions
FAQ
How do I download it?
After checkout, Payhip emails you a link to one ZIP file (~196 MB). On a phone, open it in your Files app. The free sample (24 MB) is a direct download now.
What resolution are they?
4,000–8,000 px on the long edge. That’s about 20×30 in at 200 dpi for most images (each image’s size is in the caption sheet), and plenty for 4K wallpapers.
Are any of these AI-generated?
No. None of the images is AI-generated. 13 are public-domain archive works (paintings, engravings, NASA and telescope images, a museum tablet) and 5 are original artworks we drew with code. The captions were drafted with AI assistance and checked against sources.
Can’t I get the public-domain images free?
Yes, and each caption card links to the source. You’re paying for the selection, the restoration, the research captions, the 5 originals and having it all in one labeled package.
Are there phone and desktop crops?
Not in this version. The images come as single files in their original proportions. Most work as desktop wallpapers, and portrait ones (like Doré or Haeckel) suit phones.
Can I print them?
Yes, for your own home, office or classroom wall, at any size. You can’t sell prints, or put our original artworks (14–18) on products.
Can I use them in a class or a YouTube video?
In school work or a non-commercial talk, yes, with the credit “Art: Discover Truth (societyofexplorers.com)” plus the original credit on the card. For monetised videos, email us first about images 14–18. Images 1–13 are public domain at their sources either way.
